Pacific Heights: The Hanging Bed Room
This Penthouse Bedroom was designed for The San Francisco Decorator Showhouse, and was inspired by the song, “Sittin’ by the Dock of the Bay” written by Otis Redding on the docks of Sausalito just outside the window beyond. The custom, one-of-a-kind hanging bed hung from the ceiling on custom, hand dyed ropes fastened with custom hardware above and below. The hand-blown glass sleeves on the bed illuminated at night, and further added to the quiet mystique. The space featured several custom elements including: Venetiano bi-colore plaster walls, and nine step hand trowelled surface with two custom colorations; custom finished, and hand distressed floors of white oak; and custom bespoke bedding; and custom lighting—all of which were designed by Cathleen Gouveia and custom made by hand-picked artisans. The project went from demolition to construction and installation within six short weeks.
